Tax lawyers need regulatory body: Anisul

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq has emphasised the importance of forming a strong regulatory body for tax lawyers so that outsiders cannot enter the profession.

The tax lawyers make outstanding contributions for collecting revenue of the country. They need a strong regulatory body so that outsiders cannot enter the profession, he said.

The law, justice and parliamentary affairs minister expressed this during a meeting with delegation of taxes lawyers at the law ministry on Tuesday.

In the meeting, Anisul Huq suggested the leaders of the various taxes lawyers’ associations to work for boosting professional standard of its members.

He also assured the delegation of providing modern books for the library of the tax lawyers’ association.

The delegates requested the minister to take necessary steps to amend the Income Tax Ordinance for forming Tax Council in line with Bangladesh Bar Council to ensure a strong regulating body for them.

They also demanded induction of a judicial officer of the rank of district judge and a tax lawyer to the Taxes Appellate Tribunals and constitution of two full benches of such tribunal in Chattogram.

He will discuss the issues with relevant authorities in this regard, Anisul Huq said.

Law and justice division secretary Md Golam Sarwar was also present at the meeting with delegation comprising Bangladesh Tax Lawyers Association president Sohrab Uddin, secretary general Md KhurshedAlam, former president Syed Iqbal Mostafa, AKM Azizur Rahman, Dhaka Taxes Bar Association president Abu Amzad, general secretary Md Zakaria Khan and former social welfare secretary Mamunur Rashid.
