Mushfiqur hits ton on comeback

Rajshahi Division batsman Mushfiqur Rahim made a spectacular comeback after injury as he struck the first hundred in the ongoing 24th edition of the National Cricket League against Dhaka Metro on the second day of the second round tier-2 match in Chattogram on Tuesday.

Mushfiqur struck a brilliant unbeaten 108 off 242 balls while Junaid Siddique (53), Pritom Kumar (51) and Farhad Reza (58 not out) also scored fifties as Rajshahi finished the second day’s play at 333-6, taking a massive lead of 199 runs against Dhaka Metro.

Earlier, resuming an overnight score of 72-2, Rajshahi lost two early wickets on the second day but Mushfiqur anchored the innings for his side while others also gave him ample support from the opposite end.

Meanwhile, in the other tier-2 match, Khulna Division made 169-8 in their first innings at stumps on day two after they bowled Barishal Division all out for 248 runs in their first innings in Cox’s Bazar.

Resuming a score of 210-7, Barishal added 38 runs before losing their remaining three wickets.

Nahidul Islam then made 88 not out but he failed to get support from the other hand as Khulna were still trailing Barishal by 79 runs at the end of the second day’s play.

In tier-1, Dhaka Division took a 49-run lead over Sylhet Division at the BKSP-3 after they made 88-2 in their second innings.

Earlier, resuming an overnight score of 59-2, Sylhet could make only 167 runs in their first innings and received a mere 39-run lead over Dhaka.

In the other tier-1 game in Mirpur, Chattogram Division managed to take a lead of 30 runs with only four wickets to spare as they finished at 126-6 in their second innings against Rangpur Division.

Earlier, Rangpur made 222 runs in their first innings to take a 96-run lead over Chattogram after resuming on 96-2.

Hasan Murad finished with 5-46, his second five-wicket haul in the ongoing tournament for Chattogram.
