Families of 5 lightning victims get financial aid in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA: The families of five persons, who were killed by lightning strike in the district, received financial aid on Thursday.

The financial aid was distributed among the lightning victims’ families by Sadullapur UNO Rokhsana Begum.

Sources said five workers were working in a brick kiln located at Sholagari BTC area under Pirganj upazila of Rangpur district on Tuesday. In the meantime, it was drizzling with thunderbolt. Then, the workers took shelter in a tin shed room in fear of thunderbolt. At one stage, a thunderbolt struck them causing they died on the spot.

The deceased are the inhabitants of Sadullapur upazila of Gaibandha district. Then, the district administration informed the higher authorities concerned about the tragic death of the workers. In response, the ministry of disaster management and relief sanctioned Taka one lakh for the deceased.

Accordingly, Sadullapur upazila administration led by UNO Rokhsana Begum formally distributed the financial aid to the close relatives of the deceased in a function held at her office on Thursday.

Each of them got Taka 20,000 from the administration.

Upazila project implementation officer Rezaul Karim and other officials were also present on the occasion.
