NOAKHALI: Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) Medical Center is unable to provide proper medical services for students. Manpower shortage is responsible for this.

Shortage of nurses, medical equipment, pathological lab and technicians is also one of the reasons. Only two doctors and one nurse are working for 8,100 students.

On 12 October 2020, when a new medical center was inaugurated, the NSTU authorities said that the medical services would be improved to serve the students better. But till now there is no improvement or new recruitment of doctors, nurses and technicians.

Dr Esmat Ara Parvin, deputy chief medical officer of the university said, “Two doctors and one nurse are not enough to ensure the best treatment for the large number of students of the university. Four new doctors and a few nurses need to be recruited immediately.”

The university administration should appoint a technician to run pathology lab before setting up and purchasing other medical equipment, she added.
