Biswa Ijtema, the second largest congregation of Muslims after hajj, will start on January 13 next year on the bank of the Turag River in Tongi of Gazipur.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal confirmed the matter to reporters after a meeting in this regard at his ministry in the capital on Thursday.

"The first phase of the Ijtema will be held from January 13 to 15, while the second phase will be held from January 20 to 22," he said.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instructed us to hold the Biswa Ijtema in a short form in accordance with hygiene rules, said the minister.

"Earlier, two groups emerged, centering the Ijtema . Then we called the leaders of the two groups and told them to do it together. We also asked them about the schedule if they observe Ijtema separately," he said.

According to him, they could not make any decision and then the government fixed two dates earlier for both groups.

Kamal said these two groups did not agree to do it together this time either. This time, Jobair Group will organise Ijtema from January 13 to 15. The Wasek Group will organise Ijtema from January 20 to 22.

The first party will hand over the field to the administration after the first phase of Ijtema, and then the second party will prepare the ground for the second round of Ijtema.
