Bowlers rule on day one of NCL

Bowlers shone on the opening day of the first round of the 24th edition of the National Cricket League, which got underway at four different venues in the country on Monday.

In Dhaka, pacer Sumon Khan claimed 5-25 as reigning champions Dhaka Division bowled Rangpur Division all out for only 92 runs in their first innings before they finished the day at 122-5 during a tier-1 match.

Left-arm spinner Nabil Samad finished with 5-47 as Sylhet Division dismissed Chattogram Division for 141 runs in their first innings after they decided to bowl first in the other tier-1 match at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. Sylhet finished the day at 15-0.

In a tier-2 match in Khulna, the hosts Khulna Division were bowled out for only 131 runs in their first innings after Dhaka Metro bowler Manik Khan finished with 4-28.

Dhaka Metro also had a poor start in their first innings, reaching 37-3 at stumps of day one.

In the other tier-2 encounter in Rajshahi, Sohag Gazi (56) and Abu Sayem Chowdhury (59) scored fifties while Tanvir Islam made 43 off 54 balls not out as Barishal Division finished the opening day at 269-9 against Rajshahi Division after being sent into bat first.

Nahid Rana took four wickets for 36 runs for Rajshahi. Earlier on the day, the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s tournament committee chairman Ahmed Sajjadul Alam inaugurated the tournament as the chief guest at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

Chief selector Minhajul Abedin was also present during the opening ceremony.

The four-day tournament will run until November 17.
