Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) allegedly carried out an attack on a programme organised to mark the third death anniversary of BUET student Abrar Fahad on the Dhaka University (DU) campus on Friday.

Abrar Fahad Smriti Sangsad organised the programme at the foot of Raju Memorial Sculpture on the campus.

Eyewitnesses said that a group of Chhatra League men under the leadership of BCL central Joint General Secretary Mahbub Khan attacked the programme immediately after it started at around 3:30 pm.

Akhtar Hossain, convener of Abrar Fahad Smriti Sangsad, said, "Immediately after starting the memorial meeting as per our preannounced program, BCL leaders and activists attacked us without provocation in the presence of the

DU proctorial team. At least 10 of our men were injured. The injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital." He also said that the chairs brought for the programme were vandalised and that posters and banners were burned.

However, BCL Joint General Secretary Mahbub Khan denied the allegation.

"They hold programmes on the campus along with outsiders and fundamentalists. We went to ask them if they were university students. At that time, they attacked us without showing ID card. Later, the general students of the university resisted them," he said.
