Number of patients with conjunctivitis on rise in Bagerhat

BAGERHAT: An wides-pread outbreak of conjunctivitis has happened at Fakirhat upazila in Bagerhat district. The disease has spread among people of all ages in almost all areas of the upazila.

It is learnt that conjunctivitis patients are coming at local upazila health complex every day for treatment. Apart from it, patients are availing treatment at community clinics, and doctors’ private chambers in different areas.

According to Ophthalmology Center of Fakirhat Upazila Health Complex, 155 of the 162 eye patients who came for treatment in the last 3 days were suffering from the disease. That was 97 per cent.

Although this highly contagious disease spread in the upazila, no initiative was taken to create public awareness about the disease. Even if there was a rule of social distance or isolation, no one obeys. In this situation, doctors said that it is important to create awareness about the disease.

Fakirhat Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Shah Md Mohibullah said conjunctivitis is very contagious. Infected patients should be kept in isolation. It is best to use sunglasses outside. Free medicines are being provided from the upazila health complex.
