Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam said that no rice should be sold under the name of Miniket.

The name of the rice has to be written on the sack while bagging the variety at the rice mill, he said, adding that legal action will be taken against those who will go against the rules.

The cabinet secretary came up with the statements while talking to journalists during a visit to Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) in Gazipur on Wednesday.

The secretary said the Department of Agricultural Extension issued a circular in this regard a few days ago.

The different varieties developed by scientists will be certified after being proofed and a decision will be taken on how to quickly deliver the varieties to farmers through the departments concerned, he said.

The cabinet secretary along with other secretaries of BRRI visited the stalls of Plant Breeding Department, Hybrid Rice Department, Biotechnology Department, Crop Quality and Nutrition Department, Rice Farming System Department, Farm Machinery and Postharvest Technology Department, Agricultural Economics Department, Agricultural Statistics Department, Farm Management Department, Department of Applied Research, Department of Entomology, Department of Plant Pathology, Department of Plant Physiology, Department of Agronomy, Department of Soil Science and Department of Irrigation and Water Management.

Later, he attended a views-exchange meeting on research in the field of agriculture and extension of varieties and technology at the auditorium of BRRI. BRRI Director General Shahjahan Kabir presented an original article on the occasion.
