AL picks Shahdab for Faridpur by-polls

Awami League has nominated Shahdab Akbar Chowdhury, son of one of the most prominent female politicians and national leaders Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, for contesting the Faridpur-2 constituency by-polls.

The decision was taken during a joint meeting of the Awami League Parliamentary Nomination Board and Awami League Local Government Representative Nomination Board at Ganabhaban with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

The parliamentary seat fell vacant at the death of deputy leader of the House Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, who passed away on September 12 while undergoing treatment.

The Election Commission (EC) on September 26 announced the schedule for the by-polls and decided to take voting in the constituency using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). The last date for submission of nomination paper is October 10, nomination papers will be scrutinized on October 12 while candidature could be withdrawn on October 19, according to the polls schedule.

The meeting also nominated candidates for seven upazila Parishads, four municipalities and 29 union parishad polls.
