Bhola sees growing number of patients with eye disease

BHOLA: An outbreak of conjunctivitis has happened at Monpura upazila in Bhola district. Children, in particular, have been affected by the disease.

It is learnt that conjunctivitis patients are coming at local upazila health complex every day for treatment. Apart from it, patients are availing treatment at community clinics, and doctors’ private chambers in different areas.

A madrasa authority in the upazila has closed the madrasa after 40 students were affected by fever and eye disease. Also, the heads of several institutions said that most of the students of each institution in the upazila are affected by this virus.

Doctors say that the incidence increases in summer and monsoon. The disease is contagious. As a result, it quickly spreads to others. Conjunctivitis sometimes causes burning sensation and redness in one or both eyes.

Monpura Upazila Health Complex medical officer Dr Ashiqur Rahman Anik said infected patients with conjunctivitis recover from the disease within 5 to 7 days if they follow hygiene rules.
