Rainfall likely to increase

The country may witness rain and thundershowers today whereas the persistence of rain will increase from tomorrow.

Monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and weak to moderate elsewhere over the North Bay, according to Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

“The axis of the monsoon trough runs through Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal to Assam across the central part of Bangladesh. One of its associated troughs extends up to Northwest Bay,” it said.

Meteorologist Omar Faruk said the country is witnessing rain and thundershower since Thursday which may continue today. “The persistence of rain may increase from Saturday,” he said.

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind and lightning flashes is likely to occur at many places over Rajshahi division and at a few places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, according to BMD.

The rain is likely to occur at one or two places over Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal and Chattogram divisions with moderately heavy falls at a few places over the country.

Bangladesh saw less rainfall than usual in July and August during peak monsoon time. It witnessed rain in September mainly due to the formation of two low-pressure systems over the Bay of Bengal.
