The sandy beach city Cox’s Bazar witnessed a sharp rise in the number of tourists on Wednesday, on the second day of the Tourism Fair and Beach Carnival.

Hoteliers in the city said that some 35,000-36,000 tourists were spending holidays on Tuesday, but on Wednesday their number increased to 45,000.

“Tourism season is yet to begin but the number of tourists has increased in the beach. We are expecting more travelers in the next couple of days,” said Cox’s Bazar Hotel-Motel Guest House Owners Association President Abul Kasem Sikder.

The second day’s fair and carnival began with cutting a cake marking the 76th birthday of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Later, an essay writing and painting competition titled ‘eco-friendly tourist’ was held with the participation of children and teenagers.

Children painted the dream beach and tourists on their canvas. Blue sky, clear water and well-decorated beach, all together made Cox’s Bazar a unique sight in the eyes of children.

District Children Affairs Officer Ahsanul Haque said that the Prime Minister’s prudence, love for the country, ideals and ethics should be developed among children as well. Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate of Cox’s Bazar, Munmun Paul, said that such an arrangement, initiated by the District Administrator, will play a positive role in the mental development of children.

Later, a kite festival, cultural programme and a DJ show were also held at the Laboni Point of the beach.

Marking World Tourism Day, the Tourism Fair and Beach Carnival, sponsored by Bashundhara Group, began in Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday to promote and boost the country’s tourism sector. The event will continue till October 3, 2022.

Cox’s Bazar district administration and beach management committee (BMC) have jointly organised the fair and carnival at the Laboni Point of the beach with the theme ‘Tourism’s New Concept’.
