A 16-member Bangladesh U-23 team left Dhaka for Iran on Wednesday to complete a 20-day camp under the national team’s Iranian head coach Alipour Aroji in Tehran ahead of the upcoming Bangabandhu Asian Central Zone U-23 International Volleyball Competition 2022.
The Bangladesh Volleyball Federation will organise the tournament, scheduled to start on October 28 at the Shaheed Suhrawardy National Indoor Stadium in Mirpur.
Ahead of the tournament in Tehran, the team will play five to six practice matches against Iran national team as well as other local teams.
“Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Nepal officially confirmed their participation in the recently concluded volleyball congress held in the Netherlands this month. Kazakhstan verbally confirmed their participation. We also invited Maldives but they’ve not responded yet. We will announce the teams officially on October 5 or 6,” a BVF official told The Daily Sun on Wednesday.
“We will play practice matches against only the senior teams. The head coach will manage everything and the Iran Federation will provide all the support. Last time, our senior team also did a month-long camp and played practice matches there in 2018,” the official added.
The federation added six players to their U-23 squad from the U-20s who recently participated in Asian Men’s U-20 Volleyball Championship in Bahrain in August.
The players are - Tanveer Hossain Tonmoy, Md Rifat Hossain, Noman Hossin, Md Rifat, Sadi Mohammod Shafin and Md Ali Al Murammar Rakesh Shaikat.
