No conspiracy can stop general election: Amu

Awami League advisory council member Amir Hossain Amu has said no conspiracy would thwart the upcoming general election.

“None will be able to foil the upcoming general election through conspiracy. The democratic journey will continue and voters will cast their votes in favour of Sheikh Hasina and her nominated candidates,” he said.

The advisory council member of the ruling party made the comment while addressing a discussion at the Jatiya Press Club in the capital on Monday as the chief guest, marking the 38th death anniversary of former AL leader and lawmaker freedom fighter Shahid Moyez Uddin.

Shahid Moyez Uddin Smrity Sangshad arranged the commemorating programme.

Amir Hossain Amu, coordinator of AL-led 14-party alliance, slammed those for their attempt to give the AL lesson about democracy.

“Those whom we fought for democracy and who grabbed the state power through autocracy now want to teach us democracy,” he said.

About BNP, Amu said the party is campaigning in two sentences—          Constitution should be amended and the Pakistan government was better than the incumbent AL government.

Terming BNP as the wraith of Pakistan, he said they (BNP) proved their love for Pakistan through the campaign.

Urging the countrymen to be cautious against those quarters, the veteran leader alleged that Ziaur Rahman entered communalism in the constitution by amending it.

AL senior leaders, including Mozaffar Hossain Paltu, Quamrul Islam, journalist leader Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, among others, spoke at the programme, with lawmaker Meher Afroz Chumki, daughter of Moyez Uddin, in the chair.

Moyez Uddin was killed by miscreants on September 27, 1984 while he was leading a protest procession at Kaliganj in Gazipur during the anti-autocracy movement.
