Govt distributes 485 tonnes of rice to 971 puja mandaps in Khulna

KHULNA: The government is distributing special general 485.5 tonnes of relief rice among 971 puja mandaps in nine upazilas and metropolitan area of the district ahead of durga puja.

Durga Puja, the biggest festival of the Hindu community which will begin on October 1 with the incarnation (Bodhon) of the goddess Durga on panchomi and formal celebration of maha sashthi at all temples, reports BSS.

On the occasion, the authorities have started distribution 500-kg rice to each puja mandaps of the city and district.

“The district administration with assistance of upazila administrations and authorities of local units of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad (BPUP) is distributing the rice,” District Relief and Rehabilitation officer (DRRO) Ranjit Kumar told on Monday.

“The process of distribution of the allocated general relief rice is expected to complete by the next couple of days,” the DRRO said.

General Secretary of Khulna city unit BPUP Prashanta Kumar Kundu thanked the government for allocating the rice to assist the Sanaton community people of Khulna in celebrating Durga Puja.

He also expressed deep gratitude for taking adequate security measures by the law enforcement agencies and authorities concerned to ensure peaceful celebrations of the ‘Sharodiyo’ Durga Puja festival.

Meanwhile, Khulna City Corporation (KCC) will distribute Taka 6, 58,000 among the 75 puja mandaps authorities.

“KCC will hands over cash money to the puja udjapon parishad committees in the city tomorrow,” Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque, confirmed on Monday.
