Superb Shakib shines for Guyana

Shakib Al Hasan’s all-round brilliance helped Guyana Amazon Warriors move to the second position in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League after they beat Trinbago Knight Riders by 37 runs during their penultimate league match at Providence Stadium in Guyana on Sunday.

Shakib struck 35 off 25 balls to guide Guyana post 173-6 in their 20 overs after being sent into bat first before the left-arm spinner finished with 3-20 in his four overs to bowl the opposition all out for 136 runs in 20 overs.

Shakib was also involved in a run out of Trinbago’s Nicholas Pooran in the contest and was named player of the match.

“Happy to contribute for the team. First two games didn’t go well. Today was the night for me,” said Shakib, who was dismissed for first-ball duck in the previous two matches, after the match.

“Our team attitude was superb. When we got 170, everyone believed we could win,” he added.

This was the third successive victory for Guyana in the ongoing tournament and Shakib also featured in all these matches.

Guyana will face Barbados Royals in their last league match today at the same venue.

The top four teams from the six-team event will qualify for playoffs while the final will be played on September 30.
