Mamta starts Durga Puja festivities with ‘Utsaver Gaan’

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee began the Durga Puja festivities on Mahalaya by debuting as a singer in her latest album of special songs, titled ‘Utsaver Gaan’, released on Sunday. She has not just sung a song ‘Dhak dumadum’, along with singer-turned-politician Indranil Sen and Aditi Munshi, but has also written the lyrics of all the songs and composed the music of the album, reports Times of India.

The album comprises of eight Puja-special songs sung by the likes of Jit Ganguly, Sriradha and Monomoy, besides her Trinamool Congress party MLAs Babul Supriyo and Indranil.

Album apart, Banerjee, otherwise also have been busy since Thursday as this year's festival got a soft launch three days before Mahalaya with the chief minister inaugurating three Durga Pujas in north Kolkata - Tala Park Prattoy, Sreebhumi Sporting Club in Lake Town and FD Block Durga Puja in Salt Lake. From Mahalaya, September 25, the chief minister - who has been flooded with invitations from several hundred puja organisers - will go on a puja inauguration spree over the next week.

This year the biggest festival of Bengal is all the more special as it was been inscribed on Unesco's list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity last December, catapulting Durga Puja to the global map.
