‘Hawa’ nominated for Oscars from Bangladesh

The much-talked about film ‘Hawa’ has been nominated for the upcoming Oscars from Bangladesh. 

Mejbaur Rahman Sumon-directed movie has been submitted in the ‘Best International Feature Film’ category for the upcoming 95th Academy Awards.

Submission coordinator of the 95th Oscar Bangladesh Committee Abdullah Al Maruf confirmed the matter to the media on Sunday.

Abdullah Al Maruf said, “Two films were submitted to the jury for nomination for Oscars and   ‘Hawa’ was selected. The members of the jury board were impressed with the movie’s technical aspects.”

Hawa is a mystery-drama film written and directed by Mejbaur Rahman Sumon. The film is produced by A Facecard Productions and Sun Music & Motion Pictures Limited.

The film depicts the journey of an all-men team on a seafaring boat, eventually where the mystery of life and relationships gets re-interpreted. The usual fishing mission of a group of seasoned boatmen of Cox’s Bazar finds an unheard-of catch in the deep sea. They caught a beautiful yet rebellious young girl and then enter the world of men on the boat. The story of the film is based on a fairy tale.

The film was released on July 29 in Bangladesh and received positive reviews.

‘Hawa’ was also thriving in the United States (US), and secured the 27th place among the top 30 films at the US box office.

On September 2, the film premiered in 73 theaters in the US and 13 in Canada.

Popular actors Chanchal Chowdhury, Nazifa Tushi, Sariful Razz, Sumon Anowar, Shohel Mondol, Nasir Uddin Khan, Rizvi Rizu and others have played important roles in the movie.
