Army to give Tk 1cr to SAFF champions

Bangladesh Army has announced to give a cash reward of Tk 1 crore to the Bangladesh national women’s football team for clinching the SAFF Women’s Championship for the first time.

The champions team will also be given a grand reception on Tuesday, said a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Friday.

Earlier, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced a reward of Tk 50 lakh for the SAFF victors.

Besides, Vice-President of Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) Ataur Rahman Manik, also chairman of Toma Group, said he would give Tk 50 lakh as reward for the SAFF champions.

Sharmin Salam, wife of BFF Senior Vice-President Salam Murshedy and chairman of Envoy Group, also announced to provide Tk 50 lakh for the footballers.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday announced monetary award for all the players of the team.

The award will be handed over to the footballers when she returns home from the US after attending the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

Sheikh Hasina also ordered the authorities concerned to provide houses for those women footballers who require homes.

Bashundhara Group, the largest industrial conglomerate of the country, will also accord a reception to the footballers in October.

On September 19, Bangladesh won their maiden title of the SAFF Championship defeating hosts Nepal 3-1 in the final in Kathmandu.
