Tigers eyeing to develop winning habit in UAE

Bangladesh’s interim T20 skipper Nurul Hasan Sohan said that they are eyeing to develop a winning habit during the upcoming two-match T20I series against UAE.

“I think it will be good preparation ahead of the World Cup. If we can win (against UAE), we can take the confidence in New Zealand and the World Cup and it will help us,” Nurul told reporters at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport before departing for UAE on Thursday afternoon.

“We lost a couple of games in the T20Is but we know that this team has a different look. We can develop the habit of winning and we are going there keeping our focus on it,” he added.

Nurul will be leading the T20I side in the absence of regular skipper Shakib Al Hasan, who makes himself unavailable for the series due to his Caribbean Premier League commitment.

Shakib, who has the NOC until October 4, will join the team in New Zealand before the start of the tri-nation series involving the hosts, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

The two matches of the SKYEXCH UAE VS Bangladesh Friendship Series will be held respectively on September 25 and 27 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Meanwhile, Nurul claimed that he is always in touch with Shakib but also believed the absence of the all-rounder would be an opportunity for the player to try his luck.

“Every team wants a player like Shakib bhai but it will be a chance for someone who will be replacing him in the XI. We talk to each other regularly. He is now busy with CPL. Maybe we will talk when he joins us in New Zealand,” Nurul concluded.

The recent performance of the Tigers in the shortest format is quite disappointing considering the fact they won only two matches out of their 10 T20Is played in 2022.

The poor performance also prompted the Bangladesh Cricket Board to make several changes that included replacing head coach Russell Domingo with new T20 technical consultant Sridharan Sriram while also replacing Mahmudullah with Shakib in the captain’s position.
