Probe body formed over IU VC office vandalism

KUSHTIA: The authorities of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia formed a five-member probe body, led by the IU proctor Professor M Jahangir Hossain, over vandalising the office of Vice-Chancellor Professor Shaikh Abdus Salam’s personal secretary, IU acting registrar HM Ali Hasan confirmed the matter on Thursday.

The other members of the probe body are -- student advisor Professor Shelina Nasrin, Saddam Hossain hall provost Professor Asaduzzaman, assistant proctor Shofiqul Islam and Treasurer’s personal secretary deputy register Zahidul Islam. The probe committee was asked to submit their report as early as possible, IU acting registrar said.

The university authority, also, on Tuesday lodged a case with the university police station against 15 to 25 former activists of the university unit Bangladesh Chhatra League over the vandalism, IU police station officer-in-charge Annu Jayed confirmed the matter.

The case was filed with the police station against two named and 15 to 25 unnamed persons, including former IU BCL unit activists Mizanur Rahman Titu and Rasel Joarder who work at different offices of the university on a daily basis. The police were looking into the matter, the OC said.

IU Vice-Chancellor Professor Shaikh Abdus Salam said that they formed a probe body and legal action would be taken against the attackers after getting the probe report.

Earlier, a group of the IU ex-BCL activists went to the university vice-chancellor’s office demanding regularisation of their jobs on September 17. They, at one stage, attacked the VC’s personal secretary M Ayub Ali and vandalised his office. Later, the victims filed a written complaint with the registrar ensuring safety and demanding punishment of the culprits.
