Nurul to lead Tigers in UAE in absence of Shakib

Wicketkeeper-batsman Nurul Hasan Sohan will lead Bangladesh in the upcoming two-match T20I series against UAE as the Bangladesh Cricket Board announced a 17-member squad on Wednesday.

Regular skipper Shakib Al Hasan, who is currently in West Indies to represent Guyana Amazon Warriors in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League, won’t part of the series.

“Shakib is unavailable in UAE,” BCB’s Cricket Operation Chairman Jalal Yunus told The Daily Sun on Wednesday.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board arranged the series as part of preparation for next month’s tri-nation series in New Zealand and the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.

The BCB was forced to take such initiative after the national team’s recent three-day camp at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium was spoiled due to the incessant rain.

Meanwhile, chief selector Minhajul Abedin told The Daily Sun that the Tigers will have to give a fitness test today at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium before departing for UAE.

“The fitness test will be taken in two groups. The first group will give the test at 08:30am and the second group will do it at 09:30am. The Yo-Yo test will be conducted to see where they stand fitness wise before going to UAE,” said Minhajul.

The Tigers, which are scheduled to depart for Dubai at 05:30pm on the same day, will play two T20Is respectively on September 25 and 27 while they are expected to return home on September 28.
