Tigresses start qualifying campaign with victory

Bangladesh made a winning start in the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier as they beat Ireland by 14 runs in their opening Group A match at Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi, UAE on Sunday.

Opting to bat first, Bangladesh posted 143-4 in their 20 overs after skipper Nigar Sultana Joty and opener Shamima Sultana scored 67 and 48 runs respectively.

In reply, Ireland were bowled out for 129 runs in 19.4 overs with Salma Khatun picking three wickets and Sanjida Akter Meghla and Nahida Akter taking two wickets each for Bangladesh.

Bangladesh were scheduled to play against Scotland in their second Group A match at the same venue on Monday.

Scotland also registered a 79-run victory over USA in their opening match on Sunday.
