Five Bangladeshi films at World Film Fest Kolkata

The first World Film Festival Kolkata begins at Nandan, the Film Centre of the Indian state of West Bengal today. 

Federation of Film Societies of India (Eastern Region) in collaboration with IFFS International Federation of Film Societies (Asia-Pacific Section) has been organising the festival.  

Five Bangladeshi films will be screened at the event. The films are— ‘No Ground Beneath the Feet’ directed by Mohammad Rabby Mridha, ‘Ripples’ by Senjutee Suborna Tushee, ‘Rickshaw Girl’ by Amitabh Reza Chowdhury, ‘Laal Moroger Jhuti’ by Nurul Alam Atique  and ‘Maya - The Lost Mother’ by Masud Pathik. 

Among the films ‘No Ground Beneath the Feet’ will be screened at 6:00pm on the  opening day of the festival, ‘Ripples’ starring Deepanwita Martin and Moutushi Biswas will also be screened on the same day.

‘Rickshaw Girl’ will be screened tomorrow at 05:40pm. ‘Laal Moroger Jhuti’ will be showen  on September 23 at 5:45pm and ‘Maya - The Lost Mother’ starring Jyotika Jyoti will be screened on September 25 at 01:55pm.

The Bangladeshi films will be screened under the ‘Country Focus’ category at the event to mark 50 years of the Liberation War of Bangladesh.

The festival will be inaugurated by Kiran Shantaram, chairman of the Federation of Film Societies of India.

Popular Bangladesh and Kolkata’s actress Jaya Ahsan will be present as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony.

Apart from Jaya Ahsan, actress Gargee Roy Chowdhury, Jyotika Jyoti, director Abu Sayeed, Atanu Ghosh will be present at the inaugural ceremony of the festival.  

The 1st World Film Festival Kolkata will present fiction films from India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Portugal, Egypt, Morocco, Brazil, Ecuador and other countries.
