2 held with Yaba pills, firearms

CHATTOGRAM: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested two drug peddlers with 2.20 lakh pieces of Yaba pill, two firearms and four rounds of cartridge from Karnaphuli area in the city on Saturday.

The arrestees were identified as Azam Uddin Chowdhury, 26, and Syed Noor alias Rubel Hossain, 30, residents of Shahmirpur area under Karnaphuli police station.

Rab-7 Senior Assistant Director (AD-Media) Md Nurul Absarsaid the due used to carry Yaba earlier.

Later, they stockpiled the drugand started supplying them to nearby areas including Chattogram.

On information, Rab personnel raided the house of Azam in the Karnaphuli area.

Acting on his statement, the elite crime busters recovered a total of 2.20 lakh pieces of Yaba tablet digging soil of a godown beside the residence and the firearms and cartridges from a polythene bag kept tactfully under water at the same spot, he said.

Azamwas involved with the drug peddling for the last five to six years. After working as carrier, he started supplying the Yaba to Chattogram and other districts collecting from Myanmar, said the officer.

The arrestees and the recovered items were handed over to concerned police station for legal action, Absar added.
