One held with 20 gold bars in Jashore

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a man with 20 gold bars from Putkhali bordering areas of Jashore district on Saturday.

The arrestee is identified as Hridoy Hossain, son of Md Rezaul Islam, hailing from Kagaj Pukur village under Benapole.

Lt Col Tanvir Rahman, commander of 21 BGB Battalion, confirmed the arrest and recovery of gold.

He stated that Hridoy Hossain was apprehended near the Putkhali bordering area with 20 gold bars weighing 2.333kg. The gold value is Tk 2,00,63,800.

BGB had information that gold was going to be smuggled into India through the border.

Accordingly, the law enforcers conducted a search near Mohisakura Bridge and arrested Hridoy.

During interrogation, the arrestee confessed to attempting to smuggle the gold into India.
