A constable has been arrested in a case filed over the September 2 looting of 98 bhories of gold from a trader in Keraniganj on the outskirts of the capital.

The arrestee is Munshi Quamruzzaman Likhon, who was posted at Lalbagh Police Station in the capital.

A team of Keraniganj Model Police Station has made the arrest, sub-inspector Alok Kumar Dey, also investigation officer of the case, told the Daily Sun on Sunday.

He, however, did not disclose the time and place of the arrest, saying details will be presented at a press briefing at the office of Dhaka’s superintendent of police today.

On September 2, a gold trader from Manikganj came to Tanti Bazar in the capital to sell 98 bhories of gold ornaments. However, he could not sell those and was returning to Manikganj along with the ornaments.

 ­When he reached Sajeda Hospital area in Keraniganj, some people, impersonating policemen, waylaid him and took him to Jhilmil Residential Area where they looted his gold.

The victim later filed a case with Keraniganj Model Police Station in this regard.
