Major General Ziaul Ahsan was appointed as the Director General (DG) of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC) on Monday.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued a gazette notification in this regard on the day.

According to the notification, Ziaul Ahsan was entrusted with the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs and given this new responsibility. This order will come into effect immediately.

Ziaul Ahsan is now serving as the director of NTMC.  He previously held important posts in the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and the National Security Intelligence (NSI).

He was promoted from Brigadier General to Major General in July. On July 21, a letter was sent to the Ministry of Public Administration to appoint Ziaul Ahsan as the DG of the NTMC.

NTMC, a national-level intelligence agency of Bangladesh, is responsible for monitoring, collecting, and recording information and communication data. It is also responsible for the interception of electronic communication such as phone calls, emails, and social media accounts. NTMC plays a vital role in resisting militancy and preventing terror activities.
