Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) has fined a total of 133,240 companies Tk 927.57 million since it started its operations.

It also resolved cases on receiving complaints against 7,806 companies, according to briefing at the latest meeting of National Consumers' Right Protection Council held at Pan Pacific Dhaka on Thursday.

The government established DNCRP as an independent agency under the Ministry of Commerce to monitor the market in accordance with the Consumer Rights Protection Act – 2009. Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi presided over the 29th meeting as the chairman of the Council.

Senior Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh, Insurance Association President Sheikh Kabir Hossain, FBCCI President Md Jashim Uddin, Consumer Association of Bangladesh President Golam Rahman, Awami League Commerce Affairs Secretary Siddiqur Rahman, Press Club President Farida Yasmin, and BSTI Director General Nazrul Anwar were present on the occasion.

DNCRP Director General AHM Shafiquzzaman moderated the session.
