Assistant Professor of Institute of Modern Languages (IML) at Dhaka University Ashraf-Uz-Zaman Sarker was dismissed from his post because of his full-time employment in a Dhaka embassy.

Besides, Associate Professor of Department of Pharmaceutical Technology Abul Kalam Lutful Kabir was demoted to Assistant Professor on charges of plagiarizing his PhD thesis, said a DU news release on Wednesday.

These decisions were taken in a syndicate meeting held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on Tuesday with Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman in the chair.

"The allegations made against Assistant Professor Ashraf-Uz-Zaman Sarkar have proved true by the tribunal concerned.

  The regular teacher of the university was fired in view of the recommendation of the tribunal as it was a punishable offense and against the rules, discipline and ethics of the service to hold two full-time jobs at the same time.

“Associate Professor Abul Kalam Lutful Kabir was demoted for forgery and plagiarism.”

Besides, as per the recommendation of the Dean's Committee, the formation of 'Student Promotion and Support Unit' under the Department of Student Guidance and Counseling was approved in the meeting.
