The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) has fined Shohoz.com, an e-ticketing partner of Bangladesh Railways, Tk 2.15 lakh for selling one ticket twice.
The decision was taken by the consumer rights agency on Wednesday at its head office in the presence of complainants and Shohoz’s representatives.
According to the complaint settlement details, Biswajit Saha filed a complaint with the DNCRP against the three representatives concerned of Shohoz.com.
As the complaint seemed actionable, DNCRP issued a notice to all the parties to attend a hearing and explain. On August 23, everyone attended and submitted oral and written statements.
The complainant said he bought a ticket (Ja-29) for Chitra Express on June 29 to travel on the Iswardi-Ullapara route the next day.
On boarding the train, the complainant found that the same seat (Ja-29) had been sold to another passenger named Maruf Islam, who was travelling from Jashore to Ullapara.
Maruf Islam’s ticket was scanned and found right, and railway officials told us that the complainant had prepared a fake ticket and mistreated the complainant.
Representatives of Shohoz.com admitted in the hearing that they sold the ticket twice.
After reviewing the oral and written statements and other evidence of all the parties, the DNCRP fined Shohoz.com a total of Tk 215,000. The company is asked to pay the fine within five working days.
