Traffic police among two killed in city road accident

Two people, including a DMP traffic police constable, were killed as a lorry hit them near Abdullahpur Tongi Bridge in the city's Uttara area early Sunday, reports BSS.

The deceased were identified as police constable Kazi Masud, 37, hailing from Bagerhat district and local ticket counter worker Md Jahangir Alam, 28, a resident of the city's Dakshinkhan area.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Uttara West police station Mohammad Mohsin said the accident took place around 3:20am when the speeding lorry hit the duo as they were crossing the road near Tongi Bridge, leaving them critically injured.

Constable Masud was taken to Uttara Modern Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 4 am.

Jahangir was sent to Uttara Lakeview Hospital where the duty doctors declared him dead.

The lorry was seized and Police are conducting operations to nab the lorry driver. A case was filed in this connection, OC Mohsin said.

According to DMP officials, constable Masud joined Bangladesh Police on 25 February 2004.
