Man jailed for 17 yrs in arms case

CHATTOGRAM: A Chattogram court on Thursday sentenced 17 years rigorous imprisonment to an accused in an arms case filed in 2009.

Chattogram 4th Additional Metropolitan Session Judge and Chattogram Special Tribunal-8 Judge Shariful Alam Bhuiyan also acquitted four accused of the charges.

 The convict was identified as Md Sarwar Uddin Munna, son of late Jalal Ahmed of Patiya upazila in the district.

 The acquitted accused were Abdus Sattar alias Sattar Shah, Ali Asgar alias Zia, Mokbul and Jahangir.

According to deposition of the case, police recovered three light guns, 11 rounds of cartridge and two rounds of bullet of rifle from a house at Janata Housing Quarter under Khulshi Police Station on April 7 in 2009.  The then Sub Inspector (SI) Mohammad Mohsin of the police station filed a case accusing the five in this connection.

 A court framed charges against them on November 2 of the same year.
