1,081 patients hospitalised in 10 days

The dengue situation in the country is getting worse as the daily number of patients admitted to hospitals has crossed hundred for the last four days in a row.

Some 1,081 people with dengue fever were hospitalised across the country in last 10 days.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 153 more dengue patients were admitted to hospitals in the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning. However, no death was reported in the meantime.

Earlier, 139 people were infected on Monday, 135 on Sunday and 116 on Saturday.

At present, out of the 153 patients, 107 are admitted to different public and private hospitals in the capital while the remaining 46 at hospitalised outside Dhaka, the DGHS said.

The DGHS added 2,112 dengue patients were admitted to different hospitals of the country and nine died this month. The health experts feared this year the number of dengue patients may increase comparing to the previous year as a new type of the dengue virus Den 4 has been found in the country.

They have also emphasised on public awareness to prevent the deadly disease and to destroy all Aedes mosquito breeding grounds.
