Awareness stressed  for strict enforcement of CRPA

DINAJPUR: Creating public awareness is crucial for strict enforcement of the Consumers’ Right Protection Act (CRPA), 2009, to free people from production, marketing and consumption of adulterated foods, other products and overcharge.

The observation came at a seminar on “Informing the Consumers’ Right Protection Act, 2009, and its Enforcement’’ organised by the upazila administration at the conference room of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) at Hakimpur upazila in Dinajpur district on Tuesday.

The Department of National Consumer Rights Protection extended assistance in arranging the event participated by public representatives, traders, journalists, pharmaceutical shop owners, civil society members and consumers.

Presided over by Hakimpur UNO Mohammad Noor-e Alam, upazila Vice-chairmen Shahinur Reza and Parul Nahar, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Shyamol Kumar Das, Boaldar union parisahd Chairman Sadrul Islam, addressed the event.

The UNO elaborately discussed various aspects of the CRPA, 2009 and the steps taken for proper enforcement of the Act to ensure rights of the common consumers in the upazila.

“As a result of enacting the act and its implementation so far, common consumers have already started getting huge benefits of the act and becoming more aware of their rights of getting pure food and other products,” he said.

He put emphasis on enhancing public awareness for strict enforcement of the CRPA, 2009, to protect rights of consumers and save public health from food poisoning, other contamination and health hazards.

The speakers called upon public representatives, business community members, traders, and common consumers to become aware of the severe consequences of production, supply, sale and consumption of adulterated and poisonous foods and other products.

Dr Shyamol urged all concerned to adopt effective measures against production and marketing of adulterated foods to protect public health and save human lives.
