The ruling Awami League will stage demonstration programme across the country today, in protest against countrywide series bomb blasts on August 17 in 2005.
The AL will hold the programme protesting incitement of creating terrorism and anarchy unleashed by Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its allies through rumor and propaganda.
The procession will be brought out from the premises of Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh that will end at Awami League central office on Bangabandhu Avenue after parading Matsya Bhaban, Kadam Foara, Jatiya Press Club and Zero point.
In this regard, Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader asked all the party’s district, city, upazila, thana, pourasava and union units to participate in the programme.
On this day in 2005, when the BNP-Jamaat-led four-party alliance government was in power, the members of banned outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) carried out a series of attacks in around 500 places of 63 districts out of 64.
Since then, the ruling Awami League is observing the day as ‘Series Bomb Blasts Day’ on August 17.
