Shop owners and officials of Bashundhara City recalled the great contribution of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for the country’s independence.

Bashundhara City Authorities and Bashundhara City Shopping Mall Shop Owners Association jointly organised a discussion programme and doa mahfil at the prominent shopping centre in the capital Dhaka, marking National Mourning Day and 47th anniversary of martyrdom of the great leader.

Addressing the programme, Bashundhara City in-charge Mohsinul Karim said the whole nation was observing the day reminiscing about the great leader who had dreamt of a golden Bengal.

“He (Bangabandhu) inspired the people of this country for freedom.

That is why we have become independent. His dream of Sonar Bangla now becomes a reality,” Karim said.

Bashundhara City Shopping Mall Shop Owners' Association President MA Hannan Azad said that the day is being observed in every home across the country with due solemnity.

“Bangabandhu showed the path of liberation of Bangladesh. The great leader led the golden chapter of history through the 1970 election, student movement in1962 and six-point movement in 1966," he said.

"Then, we achieved independence through supreme sacrifices of 3 million martyrs. By killing Bangabandhu, the anti-liberation forces tried to foil the fruits of independence. Had he been alive, the nation would get many new things,” Azad, also a freedom fighter, said while going down the memory lane.

Though Bangabandhu could not complete many things, his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is trying to complete the unfinished task of Bangabandhu, he said.

“Sheikh Hasina continues to play a remarkable role for the development of the country. The country's biggest infrastructure Padma Bridge is an example,” he added.

MA Hannan said that Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan has strengthened the hands of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through supporting the pro-liberation forces.

Shop Owners Association Vice Presidents Wahid Murad and Karthik Karmakar and General Secretary Liton Howladar and Bashundhara City General Manager Rabiul Islam were also present on the occasion.
