Man held with 1.21kg gold at HSIA

Customs officials arrested a passenger with 1.21 kg of gold at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in the capital on Monday.

The detainee has been identified as Md Shah Alam who hails from Dagonbhuiyan Upazila of Feni.

Md Riazul Islam, Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Customs House, said Shah Alam arrived on an Air Arabia flight from Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (UAE). Customs officials wanted to know if he had gold while crossing the green channel at the airport. But he denied having anything.

Then the customs officials challenged him to scan his bag. Later, his bag was searched at the Red Channel baggage counter and found seven gold bars and some gold ornaments,     weighing around 1.216kg. The value of the seized gold is around Tk 89 lakh.

In this regard, a case was filed with the Airport Police Station.
