Sheikh Russel KC distribute food among 5,000 destitute people

Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Ltd, a top-tier football club in the country, distributed food among around 5,000 destitute people in four places of the capital on Monday, marking National Mourning Day and 47th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The nation commemorated the massacre of August 15, 1975 when a cabal of disgruntled army officials assassinated Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members.

Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of Bangabandhu, was not spared from the hands of the murderers that day. The killers did not hesitate to kill Sheikh Russel, who was only 11 years’ old.

Bangabandhu’s wife Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, sons Sheikh Kamal, Sheikh Jamal and Sheikh Russel, daughters-in-law Sultana Kamal and Rosy Jamal, brother Sheikh Naser, peasant leader Abdur Rab Serniabat, youth leader Sheikh Fazlul Haq Moni and his wife Arzu Moni, Baby Serniabat, Sukanta Babu, Arif and Abdul Nayeem Khan Rintu were also killed along with Bangabandhu.

Bangabandhu’s two daughters – incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana – survived the carnage as they were staying in Germany at that time.

Bashundhara Group Managing Director and Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Chairman Sayem Sobhan Anvir took the initiative to observe this day through various programmes.

The club distributed food and tabarak among the poor and needy people at the Banani graveyard, Bangabandhu National Stadium, High Court Mazar and Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Club Complex in Bashundhara Residential Area in the capital.

The club also arranged quran khani and dua mahfil at the Banani graveyard mosque and their premises at the Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Club Complex in Bashundhara Residential Area.

Earlier this day, Sheikh Russel directors, members and officials paid homage by placing floral wreaths at the shrines of Bangamata Sheikh Fojilatunnesa Mujib, Sheikh Russel and others martyred at the Banani graveyard. Then, the club arranged a milad and dua mahfil praying for eternal peace of the departed souls and distributed food at the Banani graveyard mosque.

Sheikh Russel’s director in-charge Ismat Jamil Akhond Lavlu, finance director Md Fakhruddin, directors Maksudur Rahman, Habibur Rahman Khan, Mir Md Shahabuddin Tipu, Md Abubakar, Md Asaduzzaman ACS and the club’s other life-time members and officials were also present there.

Then the club fed poor and destitute people in the surrounding areas at Bangabandhu National Stadium and High Court Mazar. Finally, the club arranged quran khani, dua mahfil, food and tabarak distribution at their premises at Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Club Complex and Ma Fatema Mohila Madrasa, both in Bashundhara Residential Area of the capital.

The national and club flags were flown at half-mast, paying respects to the martyrs and commemorating the day.
