30 villages inundated by tidal surge in Pirojpur

PIROJPUR: About 30 villages in the lower areas of Kaukhali upazila in Pirojpur district have been inundated due to the continued heavy rains under the influence of low pressure in the Bay of Bengal.

The water in the rivers of the upazila is flowing 20 to 25 cm above the danger level on Sunday. Houses, school grounds and croplands were submerged in tidal water. People’s lives have been disrupted.

It was seen on Sunday that Kaukhali Dakshin Bazar, Steamer Ghat, Kaukhali-Amrajuri Ferry Ghat Road and Keundia-Dasherkathi Road have been inundated by tidal water.

Bekutia ferry ghat in Kaukhali, Amrajuri ferry ghat and Kaukhali-Sonakur ferry ghat were inundated with tidal water causing vehicular traffic to suffer.

Residents of Sonakur area said that they always have to float in tidal water. There is no one to see them.

The teachers and students of Raghunathpur EGS Shiksha Niketan Secondary School said that when the tide is high, they have to enter the school wet with water. The class room gets flooded.
