Businessman stabbed to death at ATM booth

A businessman was stabbed to death by a snatcher at the ATM booth of a private bank in the capital's Uttara area on Thursday night.

The deceased was identified as Sharif Ullah, 45. He lived in Tongi. He was a trader. His village home is at Ramganj in Lakshmipur district.

The incident took place at Sonargaon Janpath Road at around 12:00 pm when the victim was counting money after withdrawing it from the ATM booth.

Police also arrested the alleged killer, Abdus Samad, 38.

Local people caught him while he was fleeing the scene with a knife. Later, he was handed over to the police.

Mohammad Mohsin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Uttara Paschim Police Station, said Samad entered the ATM booth while the victim was counting money.

The criminal stabbed the victim while he tried to resist him from snatching his money.

Later, police rushed the victim to Uttara Modern Medical College Hospital, but the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Sharif's brother, Anwar Hossain, said they have a joint family business called Zakia Tiles Gallery and Sanitary in Uttara.

Sharif was returning to his house at Tongi from his shop last night.

A case was filed in this regard.
