Full-fledged Astro Observatory in Gazipur
A fully-fledged Astro Observatory has been set up at ‘Benu Vita’ in Sreepur of Gazipur. The snap was taken on Wednesday.

A full-fledged Astro Observatory has been set up on ‘Benu Vita’ adjacent to Bagher Bazar in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur with an aim to encourage astronomy enthusiasts to conduct research and observation.

The non-profitable observatory -- first of its kind in the country -- is the brainchild of freedom fighter and businessman Shahjahan Mridha Benu, says a press release.

The ‘Benu Vita’ comprising 80 bighas of land encompasses a 14-inch mead-Cassegrain telescope to observe the night sky.

Benu, also president (Astro division) of Anushandhitshu Chokro and Bangladesh Astro Foundation, said a 100-inch diameter refractor telescope and a radio telescope will be installed at the observatory in future.
