Four ‘human traffickers’ arrested

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) nabbed four members of a human trafficking gang in Chuadanga and Jhenaidah on Tuesday.

They are Rana Ahmed, Sujon Mia, Mohammad Sahabuddin and Naimur Rahman alias Shamim. Mohammad Yusuf, who was also a member of the trafficking gang, was arrested earlier.

Nazrul Islam, special superintendent of police of the CID, disclosed the information to reporters in the capital on Wednesday.

He said Yusuf married a woman in May 2021. After a few days of marriage, Yusuf took his wife and sister-in-law to India and sold them to a brothel there, said the police officer, adding that the four were also involved in the trafficking.

The officer said that the two women managed to flee from the brothel, returned to Bangladesh on March 22 this year and informed the police about who trafficked them.

Nazrul Islam said that they had been trafficking women to different brothels in the neighbouring country.
