Gang Rape on Bus

Rapists give confessional statement

The five youths, who were arrested over the gang-rape of a woman on a running bus after pushing her husband off the bus in Gazipur on Saturday, confessed to their crime on Sunday.

Sanowar Hossain, additional superintendent of police (crime and ops) of Gazipur district, confirmed it to the Daily Sun.

The arrestees, Sajib, 21, and Shahin, 19, gave the statements before Gazipur Senior Judicial Magistrate Court-2.

Rakib Molla, 20, and Sumon Hasan, 22, gave their confessional statements before Gazipur Judicial Magistrate Court-3.

Sumon Khan, 20, confessed his involvement in the rape before Gazipur Judicial Magistrate Court-4.

On the other hand, Judge Rifat Ara Sultana of Gazipur Judicial Magistrate Court-5 recorded the statement of the rape victim on the day.                           

In the morning, the medical examination of the victim was conducted at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital.

The woman was raped by the arrestees on a moving bus of Taqwa Parobahan after her husband was pushed off the vehicle.

Police arrested them from different parts of Gazipur on Saturday regarding a case filed over gang rape with Shreepur Police Station.

Rakib is the son of Ali Akbar of Daripara village at Araihajar in Narayanganj; Suman is the son of late Sanwar of Gupirjhupa village at Netrakona; Sajib is the son of late Kafil of Kanthalkachari village at Trishal in Mymensingh; Shahin is the son of Tula Mia of Bildola village at Haluaghat of the same district, and Sumon Hasan is the son of late Noor Alam of Khan Mohammadpur village at Rupsa in Khulna district.

 According to the case statement, the woman and her husband got off a bus at Bhogpara Bypass in Gazipur City at about 3:00 am on Saturday after coming from Naogaon.

They were waiting to get on a bus to go to their rented house at Square Masterbari in Mymensingh.

 At around 3:10 am, they got on a bus of Taqwa Paribahan in which there were six to seven passengers.

When the bus reached Hotapara on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, two passengers got off.

When the bus reached Mawna in Gazipur at about 3:40 am, two to three men on the bus began to torture her husband and pushed him off the moving bus.

At one stage, the criminals violated the woman one after another. They also snatched the victim’s mobile phone and money.
