Toll rises to 13 as one more dies

CHATTOGRAM: Another victim of the Mirsharai tragedy succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) on Saturday night, raising the death toll to 13.

The deceased was identified as Tasmir Hasan, 17, a SSC examinee from Hathazari upazila of the district.

 Tasmir breathed his last at the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital around 10:30pm, said CMCH Neurosurgery Department Head Professor Dr Noman Khaled Chowdhury. Dr Noman said Tasmir sustained severe head and shoulder injuries and was being treated at the ICU. 

 Mentionable, 11 people, mostly students, were killed and seven others injured as a speedy train ploughed into their microbus at a level-crossing near Baratakia Station in Mirsarai upazila of the district on July 29.

 Police said Mahanagar Pravati Express bound for Chattogram from Dhaka rammed into the tourist microbus which was allegedly driven on to the railway line, ignoring the signal. 

 The tragic accident took place around 1:30pm when they were returning home after visiting Khoiyachhara waterfall in Mirsharai.
