CHATTOGRAM: The Chattogram Zoo authority released 11 pythons into the Sitakunda Eco Park on Sunday.

The tropical snakes were hatched in incubators at the zoo. With this, a total of 64 snakes in three phases were let out after they grew in incubators.

Sitakunda Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md Ashraful Alam freed the pythons on behalf of Chattogram Deputy Commissioner and Zoo Executive Committee President Mominur Rahman.

Earlier, a total of 28 pythons were born in incubators in June last year while 25 in 2020. The first artificial birth of pythons in the country’s history took place at the zoo in 2020.

It may be mentioned that Chattogram Zoo was established by Chattogram district administration on 10 acres of land in the city’s Foy’s Lake area on February 2 in 1989.

There are now some 630 animals and birds of 66 species at the zoo. They include lioness, tiger, crocodile, deer, bear, python, peafowl, cock, vulture, tortoise, turtle, heron, kite, eagle, monkeys and some other common animals and birds.
