UN official visits Bangladesh contingent in Mali

Under-Secretary-General for UN Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix has visited Bangladesh Battalion-8 of Sector East in Gao Region recently.

He expressed satisfaction for the utmost devotion by Bangladesh Battalion-8 to promote peace and harmony among the locals and ensure the mandate of the United Nations. He also lauded the contingent’s work ethic and conciliatory attitude.

The United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA)’s Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG), Force Commander, Police Commander and other senior officials were also present at this time.

Colonel Md Bashirul Haque, Contingent Commander of Bangladesh Battalion-8, assured the Under-Secretary-General that Bangladesh Battalion-8 is strongly committed to restore peace, social cohesion and national reconciliation in Mali.

He also said that the Bangladeshi peacekeepers will always work alongside the common people of Mali to establish reliable peace.
