A top Bangladesh Cricket Board official said on Saturday that Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has given them some more time to finalise their Asia Cup squad due to injury concerns.

The deadline for announcing the Asia Cup squad will end on August 8 but BCB requested the ACC to extend the time frame for them considering they are awaiting medical reports of several players.

“The long injury list has put us on the back foot and so we requested the ACC to give some more time to finalise our squad and they have accepted it,” BCB cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus told The Daily Sun on Saturday.

Opener Liton Das and wicketkeeper-batsman Nurul Hasan Sohan have been ruled out from the ongoing tour of Zimbabwe after sustaining injuries and look to be doubtful for the Asia Cup unless they recover sufficiently before the time frame.

There is injury concern over Mustafizur Rahman (ankle), Mushfiqur Rahim (thumb) and Shoriful Islam (knee). Apart from them, Yasir Ali and Mohammad Saifuddin, who were ruled out from the tour of Zimbabwe due to their respective injuries, will have to pass the fitness test.

“We are waiting for the medical reports and later, we will finalise the squad,” he said.
