Australia's Oliver Hoare shocked world champion Jake Wightman and Kenya's Timothy Cheruiyot to win 1500m gold at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on Saturday.
The 25-year-old produced a storming late finish to cruise past Scotland's Wightman and Kenyan star Cheruiyot, setting a new Games record of 3min 30.12sec.
"It was a very fast race but I have been training for a fast race," said Hoare, who broke a record that had stood since 1974. "It was just about kicking at the right time.
"I went through on the inside with a lap to go and I saw Jake next to me. And I started to panic because he is the world champion. But I tried to hold my composure."
